Như đã phân tích ở phần trước, trong Câu Điều Kiện Loại 2, “were” được dùng thay cho “was” dù chủ ngữ là “I”, “he”, “she”, hay “it”.

Không sử dụng “will” hoặc “would” trong mệnh đề if

Một lỗi phổ biến là dùng “will” hoặc “would” trong mệnh đề bắt đầu bằng if, điều này là không phù hợp với cấu trúc Câu Điều Kiện Loại 2.

Trong Câu Điều Kiện Loại 2, động từ trong mệnh đề điều kiện luôn chia ở quá khứ đơn, không dùng các động từ khuyết thiếu tương lai.

Trong mệnh đề chính của Câu Điều Kiện Loại 2, người học thường chỉ biết đến “would + V”, nhưng thực tế, có thể thay thế “would” bằng các động từ khuyết thiếu khác như “could”, “might” để thể hiện sắc thái ngữ nghĩa khác nhau như khả năng hoặc sự lựa chọn.
